Frequently Asked Questions on Trimble Catalyst
Catalyst is a revolutionary new offering from Trimble that introduces a software defined GNSS Receiver that runs on select Android phones and Tablets. It requires a specialized digital antenna (Catalyst DA1) that connects to the Android device via USB. The solution enables a customer to subscribe to the Catalyst service in order to enable the GNSS Receiver to operate at a level of accuracy related to their subscription level.
Do I need an antenna to use Trimble Catalyst?
Yes, the Trimble Catalyst DA1 antenna is required.
Where can I use Catalyst?
Catalyst can be used worldwide but various accuracy levels will have different infrastructure requirements. Since high-accuracy GNSS solutions require a correction source to correct position errors caused by the atmosphere there must be a way for the Catalyst receiver to get these corrections. The following table describes this:
Availability
Meter: Worldwide with data connection; in most of the world via RTX Satellite delivered corrections
Sub-meter: Worldwide with data connection; in most of the world via RTX Satellite delivered corrections
Decimeter: Data connection required
Precision: Data connection required
What is GNSS?
GNSS stands for “Global Navigation Satellite System”. These are the constellations of satellites that allow you to know your location in the world with the push of the button. GPS is the most commonly referenced GNSS; others include GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo.
How accurate is Trimble Catalyst?
Catalyst is available in different accuracy subscription levels: Meter, Sub-Meter, Decimeter and Precision.
On which device can I run Trimble Catalyst?
Trimble Catalyst can run on many Android devices, but due to the processing requirements will not work on older model devices. In order to check if your device is compatible, download Trimble Mobile Manager from the Google Play store where you can check to see if your device is capable of running Catalyst.
Can I use Trimble Catalyst with any application?
Trimble Catalyst can be used with any location-based app on your Android phone or tablet. The Catalyst service will output location information to Androids location services to be used by any application. However, Catalyst provides better capabilities when used with a Catalyst-enabled application, such as accuracy information required by many applications.
When can I get Catalyst?
Availability will be second quarter of FY17.
How much does it cost?
The pricing is subscription based on your accuracy needs and is definitely affordable! Email us at [email protected] or Contact Us for details.
beside the different subscription levels, what is the cost of the hardware(DA1)?
Are the quoted accuracy(s), decimeter, applicable to height?
currently is there a worldwide map of availability?
The cost of the antenna is $350 USD, and as of right now there are no software that will do accurate elevations at MSL. All elevations collected would be Height Above Ellipsoid. The DA1 antenna is avilable worldwide, you just need to contact your local Trimble Dealer.
Will support for Terraflex on IOS be added? Is there a projected timeline for that?
As of right now there is no word on adding the Catalyst to iOS. We will keep you up to date when we hear any info.
