Properly Closing Your Terrasync Data File When Not in Use
Whether it is the end of the day, time for lunch, or traveling between job sites it is best practice to close your data file in Terrasync to insure your GPS data is safe. The Terrasync data file can be easily corrupted, this can be due to not properly closing the data file or your unit going to sleep.
In this post we will show you how to properly close your Terrasync data file and help keep your data safe.
After you are done collecting data the first step would would be to return to the Data Tab. In the lower right hand corner you will see a button that says close. Click on the button to close the data file. You will then see a message that reads “Close this file. Are you sure?” and click “Yes”. You have successfully closed the data file.
What can you do when you didn’t close it properly and the file is corrupted…?
Hi Adam,
You will need to send the Raw data files to the local Trimble dealer technical support in order to see if the data can be fixed.

Is it possible for raw data files to be lost if the file wasn’t closed properly? I am missing .gic and .car files from TerraSync and am therefore unable to transfer files through Pathfinder Office to create a .ssf file. Trimble support assures me the files should be on the device however no one can locate them.
Lazar,
I have not seen files missing in the Raw data inside of Terrasync. There should be 8 or 9 files that make an SSF file inside of Pathfinder. I would connect the unit to the PC and use the file explorer to see if the data is in the My Documents>Terrasync Folder.
