The Geo 6000 has been around for almost 2 months and its been fun learning about it and the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. Below are some Tips and Tricks about the Geo 6000 Series running both TerraSync, ArcPad with GPS Correct and ArcPad only.

Things to note about the Geo 6000:
- The touch screen is slidable depending on what screen you are on.
- Press firm once when using the touch screen with the stylus – no need for double taps.
- The screen brightness can be set to Auto.
- Floodlight/GNSS is not Activated when shipped from Trimble (Although we are activating it if shipped from Seiler to customer)
- NMEA is not Activated when Shipped from Trimble (Although we are activating it if shipped from Seiler) **Side note: NMEA is now a paid for option as it is on the ProXRT.
- Keep the SD, Sim card slot and USB port flaps closed and clean.
- If you will be Post Processing or using VRS/RTN while using the new “Floodlight/GNSS” you will want to research ahead time if there are basestation in the area that are recording both GPS and GlONASS data. If you post process against a GPS Only base station then the extra Russian “GLONASS” satellites will not be used in the equation of your Post Procesing results.
- ***When you are selecting a base station to Post Process against via Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office 5.xx or Trimble GPS Analyst 2.40 you will have to be sure that in the “G” Glonass Column in either software it has a “*” if not then you will only be post processing against the American L1/L2 GPS base stations.
- If you wish to only see the American GPS satellites in your “Post Processed Accuracy” equation <–> in the upper right of TerraSync 5.10 or GPS Correct 3.20 you can edit this setting under the “Logging Settings” screen.
- There is also an “Opiton Override” for the “Floodlight GNSS” and “NMEA” options.
- When using the a VRS/RTN real-time network keep your MASK settings wipe open as is with Post Processing “Smart Settings” (i.e. GPS Satellite: PDOP, SNR and Elevation)
- If you are using VRS/RTN real-time network or Post Processing with ArcPad/GPS Correct its recommended to turn on the “Status Bar” under Options drop down. Therefore you do not have to flip back to GPS Correct to see what your “In The Field or Post Process Accuracy” is.
- The Antenna Plug is opposite of what it use to be compared to the 2008 and 2005 Geos. The flat end is now in the top position.
- Make sure that the Real-time “SBAS/WAAS” is turned OFF if you are going to post process your data. When “SBAS/WAAS” Is activated, the receiver won’t use the GLONASS Satellites. “SBAS/WAAS” came be turned back on if you would like to use it for navigating back to a feature if you are not using a VRS/RTN Real-time solution.
- The battery is rated for 11 hours. Let the Battery drain down most of the way til about 20% and then Re-charge it. D0 not keep the Geo 6000 on a constant charge. See the Geo 6000 Data Sheet for more specs on the power etc.
- If you remove and replace the battery be sure to double check that your date and time are current before you start your GPS work.
- If you are using a Sim card and wish to collect all day on a VRS/RTN its recommened to have a car charger and or a spare battery with you in the field. If using the Sim card the battery with GPS running will be around 5 hours.
- Battery Run time:
- GNSS only: 10 hours
- GNSS and VRS over bluetooh: 9.5 hours
- GNSS and VRS over WiFi: 8.5 hours
- GNSS and VRS over internal cellular modem 5 hours
